Styrofoam Waste: Not Just Peanuts

The Sacramento Bee reports that Roseville has started an ambitious program to recycle polystyrene, better known as Styrofoam, in time to handle packaging materials from holiday electronics gifts.

Recycling Styrofoam is an expensive process: it costs $2,000 per pound to properly recycle, as opposed to glass at less than $100 per pound. The recycled Styrofoam will be used to manufacture baseboards and moldings by Timbron located in Stockton, California.

To find out the nearest location to recycle your Styrofoam, use the Earth 911 recycling locator search at the top of this page. For more on the benefits of recycling, visit Earth 911’s Recycling page.
